How to Add Page Numbers to a PDF Document
Organizing a large report? Learn how to professionally add custom page numbers, Bates numbering, and formatting to your PDF.
Nothing says "unfinished draft" like a 50-page report with no page numbers. If printed pages get dropped, putting them back in order is a nightmare. Professional documents like theses, legal briefs, and manuscripts require clear pagination.
Our Add Page Numbers tool gives you complete control over how your document is labeled.
Total Customization
We do not just stamp a "1" in the corner. You can customize every aspect:
1. Position
Where should the number go? You have 9 positions to choose from (Top-Left, Bottom-Center, etc.). Bottom-Center is the standard, but legal documents often use Top-Right.
2. Format
Do you want just the number 1? Or Page 1 of 50? Or maybe Report - 1? You can type any custom format text along with the number variables.
3. Style Matches
Make the numbers look like they belong.
- Font: Choose from Sans-serif, Serif, or Monospace to match your document's body text.
- Size & Color: Adjust the font size and pick any color to verify visibility.
- Transparency: You can even make the numbers semi-transparent so they don't obscure content.
4. Advanced Ranges
- Start Page: Does your document have a cover page? You probably don't want a number on the cover. You can tell the tool to start numbering from Page 2, but have that page labeled as "1".
