How do I extract images from a PDF?

Are the images extracted in their original quality?
Yes. Each image is taken out of the PDF exactly as it was stored, with the same resolution and no extra compression. If an image looks small or blurry, it was already stored that way in the PDF. Pictures with transparency keep it (they are saved as PNG), and rare formats such as JPEG 2000 are converted to PNG so they open everywhere.
Which images are extracted?
All the pictures embedded in the PDF: photos, scanned pages, logos, and illustrations. Charts, tables, and drawings made of lines and text in the PDF are not images, so they aren't extracted. To save those, convert the page to an image with PDF to JPG.
What's the difference with PDF to JPG?
Extract Images saves only the pictures inside the PDF, in their original size and quality. PDF to JPG turns each whole page, with its text and graphics, into one image. Use PDF to JPG if you want a picture of the full page.
Can I extract images from several PDF files at once?

Why do I get fewer images than I expected?
Identical images, like a logo repeated on every page, are saved only once. Also, some things that look like pictures, such as charts or diagrams, are drawn with lines in the PDF and aren't stored as images. Tiny placeholder images of just a few pixels are skipped as well.
Can I extract images from a password-protected PDF?
Yes. You'll be asked for the password when you add the file, and the images are extracted once the PDF is unlocked.
