FAQ
How do I sign a PDF document?
Upload your PDF to ToolifyPDF, click "Add Signature", and draw, type, or upload your signature. Drag it to the right spot on the page, resize it if needed, click "Save", and then download your signed PDF. It works in any browser, with nothing to install.
Can I sign a PDF for free?
Yes. ToolifyPDF lets you sign PDF documents online for free, with no account and no watermark on the signed file. You can sign PDF files up to 200 MB.
How do I add my signature to a PDF?
You have three options: draw your signature with your mouse or finger, type your name and pick one of 10 handwriting styles, or upload a picture of your signature (PNG, JPG, or SVG). Drawn and typed signatures can be black, blue, red, or green.
Can I digitally sign a PDF here?
ToolifyPDF adds an electronic signature: an image of your handwritten or typed signature placed on the page, just like signing a printed copy. It does not add a certificate-based digital signature, the kind made with a digital ID, a smart card such as a CAC, or an electronic ID card. A simple electronic signature is accepted for many everyday documents, but some contracts and official forms require a certificate-based digital signature, so check with whoever asked you to sign.
How do I sign a PDF on iPhone or Android?
Open ToolifyPDF in Safari, Chrome, or any mobile browser, select your PDF, tap "Add Signature", and draw your signature with your finger. Place it on the page, tap "Save", and download the signed PDF to your phone.
How do I sign a PDF on a Mac or Windows PC?
Open ToolifyPDF in your browser on Mac, Windows, or Linux and sign your PDF there, with no software to install. On a Mac, the built-in Preview app can also add a signature from its Markup toolbar if you prefer an offline option.
Can I add my signature to several pages at once?
Yes. Click the pages icon on your signature and choose where to place it: only this page, all pages, all pages except the last, the last page, or a range of pages (for example, from page 2 to page 5).
Can I add more than one signature or my initials?
Yes. Click "Add Signature" again to add as many signatures as you need, for example your full signature on the last page and your initials on the other pages. Each one can be moved, resized, or edited separately.
Can I fill and sign a PDF form?
Yes. Use "Add Date" to put today's date on the page (you can change it) and "Add Text" to write your name, a place, or any other text, then sign. Drag each one where it belongs. If your PDF has fillable fields, they stay fillable after signing. Only a field you place your signature, date, or text on becomes part of the page, so nothing can cover your signature.
Can I sign a password-protected PDF?
Yes. When you add it, you'll be asked for its password. The signed PDF is saved without the password, so use Protect PDF afterwards if it needs to stay protected.
Advanced Features
Beyond basic signing, our PDF signer offers several advanced features:
- Three Ways to Sign: Draw your signature, type it in a handwriting style, or upload a signature image.
- 10 Handwriting Styles: Turn your typed name into a natural-looking signature.
- Ink Colors: Choose black, blue, red, or green for drawn and typed signatures.
- Multi-Page Placement: Repeat a signature on all pages, all but the last, the last page, or a page range.
- Multiple Signatures: Add several signatures or initials anywhere in the document.
- Edit Before Saving: Move, resize, redraw, or delete any signature before you sign the PDF.
💡 Pro Tip
If you upload a photo or scan of your signature, the paper background is removed automatically, so only the ink appears on the document. For the cleanest result, sign with a dark pen on plain white paper. Blue ink is also a common way to show a document was signed and is not a photocopy.
Privacy & Security
We take your privacy seriously. All file uploads and processing happen over encrypted HTTPS connections. Your files are automatically deleted from our servers after one hour, and we never store or share your documents with third parties. You maintain complete control over your data at all times.
