How to Convert PDF to Excel Online: Get PDF Text into a Spreadsheet (Free)

Need PDF data in Excel? Learn how to bring the text of every page into an .xlsx spreadsheet, and how to split it into columns in a few clicks.

Your bank sends a financial statement as a PDF. Your boss wants the numbers in a spreadsheet for analysis. You stare at 15 pages and realize you are about to spend the next two hours typing numbers into Excel by hand.

Our free PDF to Excel tool puts the text of every page into a clean .xlsx spreadsheet, so you can copy, search, and split it instead of retyping it.

How It Works

  • One sheet per page: Each PDF page becomes its own sheet ("Page 1", "Page 2"...). Prefer one long list? Turn on All pages in one sheet.
  • One line per row: Each line of text goes into its own row in column A, in reading order.
  • Style kept: Bold text, font sizes, colors, alignment, and links are carried over.
  • Images included: Pictures on the page are copied into the sheet.

Good to know: The tool does not split tables into separate columns. The words of a table row stay together in one cell, for example "Coffee beans 2 12.50 25.00". The next section shows how to split them in seconds.

Split a Table into Columns

  1. In Excel, select column A.
  2. Go to Data > Text to Columns, choose Delimited, then tick Space and Treat consecutive delimiters as one.
  3. Click Finish. Each value now has its own column, and numbers can be summed, sorted, and filtered.

In Google Sheets, use Data > Split text to columns. Rows where a description contains spaces may need a small manual fix afterwards.

How to Convert

  1. Upload: Go to the PDF to Excel tool and upload your PDF. Batch upload is supported.
  2. Choose the layout (optional): Turn on "All pages in one sheet" if you want every page in a single sheet.
  3. Convert: Click "Convert."
  4. Download: Save your .xlsx file (several files come in one ZIP) and open it in Excel or Numbers.

Common Use Cases

  • Accountants: Get the lines of bank statements and invoices into a spreadsheet, then split them into columns.
  • Analysts: Copy figures from research reports without retyping them.
  • Procurement: Turn vendor price lists into sortable spreadsheets with Text to Columns.
  • Anyone with a long report: Search, filter, and copy text from a big PDF in a familiar spreadsheet.

Tips for Better Results

  • Text-based PDF Files work best. A scanned PDF is made of images, so its pages come out as pictures in the sheet. Run PDF OCR first.
  • Tables with clear spacing between columns split most cleanly with Text to Columns.

Secure & Private

Your financial data and documents are processed securely and deleted within one hour.
